Hello! My name is Vicki Hacker and here is my ICOM Story:
One of my favorite times of the year was volunteering for International Conference On Missions in the fall. I enjoyed getting the attendees registered and working at the information booth. It was so much fun meeting and helping people from all over the world!
Some of my special memories are: Dave Empson’s Teen theme of “Windows of the World” and the VW Bug with all the kids jammed in it; working with Emily Drayne and Jenny Empson as Jr. High students; Doug Lucas teaching the youth about missions during a workshop; Ajai Lall speaking on, “You can’t just sit there”; Doreen and Howard (Dave’s Parents) volunteering at registration, great main sessions with moving speakers, flags being carried into the main session, Kentucky Fried Chicken buckets; visiting the exhibit hall and listening to their God stories; using a hammer to build walls and filling bags of food for the hungry. I also remember asking Mark and Holly Trump while volunteering at the ICOM (Lexington) registration desk, “Why did you come to ICOM?” They said, “We are trying to find out where God is leading us.” Now they are full-time missionaries in New Zealand!
About one year ago, I was running a parking program at the Indianapolis Airport. I received a call from David Empson about coming to work full time for ICOM. I was thrilled because I loved the mission it stands for and really enjoyed the time I volunteered.
One of my responsibilities is organizing volunteers. Volunteers have played a very important role with ICOM through the years. They have given many hours of their time to help in the office with major mailings or administrative duties, help with our building renovations and upkeep, registration, helping in KidZone, setting up projectors and screens, serving communion, offering, greeters at the doors, driving shuttle busses and so much more! We truly appreciate all the awesome volunteers who have served countless hours to make the conference a success.
Well that’s MY ICOM STORY!! I would love to hear YOUR Story! Go to the I am ICOM to share with others. Your stories are a great encouragement to the staff and others that read them.
