David & I left on Monday evening from Indianapolis, for a pretty amazing trip: Indiana to India to Ireland to Indiana again. Sounds amazing, and it is!
First, it’s hard to leave our homes, our families and our wives for 12 days. With that in mind, the first 36 hours went something like this: fly from Indy to Detroit (flight delayed for over an hour because of celebs on private planes tying up air traffic…thanks, Mitt!), Detroit to London, 10-hour layover in London, London to Delhi, and finally Delhi to Indore. That was about 36 hours with little sleep, no shower and a whole lot of jet lag.
When we got to Indore, we found out that one of us was preaching at 7 p.m. We shouldn’t have been shocked, but we were. After showers and a brief nap, we drove about 15 minutes to a new church in Indore. David preached a fantastic Gospel message to a group of about 250 brothers, sisters, kids and many ‘seekers’, that was well received. Jeevan Massey, our host with Central India Christian Mission, translated and commented afterward how the message touched him. Right at the conclusion of David’s message, it began to rain and blow. That was our cue to leave, but it was an amazing night with people of like faith! We finally got a great night’s rest and woke up ready for a new day.
This morning we were up early, each got to FaceTime with our wives, ate breakfast at the hotel with Givan and then headed to a village about 20 minutes outside of town, for a meeting with 40-50 believers in a room that was roughly 10’ x 12’.
Can I say what an honor it was to be in the presence of God’s people so far away from home?
The hospitality shown to us has been humbling, and we have been most blessed by the fine people of Indore! This afternoon, we fly back to Delhi in anticipation of meeting the next couple of days with ministers and church leaders from around India to plan the World Convention of the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, which is set for January 2017 in Delhi.
Check back tomorrow for more about India!
Blessings,
Jim & David
