The CIY Engage pre-con will take place on Friday, October 29, from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon and 2:00 – 5:00 pm. There is no cost to attend, but please indicate your attendance when you register for SICOM or by emailing Jim Chamberlin at email@example.com.
Here’s what the CIY Engage pre-con will feature:
10-12- IJM Experience: Students will have an opportunity through a role-playing activity to see what a member of the IJM staff goes through to try to bring about justice. They will interview witnesses/victims/potential perpetrators and will take their information gained and turn it into a legal argument that they will present before a judge. The team with the most compelling argument wins.
2-5: Engage Kingdom Worker Training: In 3, one hour segments, students will learn about the roles that identity, justice, and spiritual disciplines (with an emphasis on evangelism) play in being Kingdom workers. Through group activities, discussions, and video content, students will get a glimpse at how these three areas can equip them to live as Kingdom workers beyond the event. (This is a glimpse into the new ENGAGE programming being launched in 2016. While this gives a one hour snapshot of each training, the actual event will give the students 6 hours focused on one of the topics)
Please note: lunch is on your own.
About SICOM & CIY Engage:
SICOM, the Student International Conference On Missions, welcomes Engage, the missions arm of Christ In Youth (CIY), into a strategic partnership to broaden students’ hands-on experiences into Kingdom Worker training. SICOM has a 16-year history of bringing missions and students together in a unique hands-on service conference dating back to when it was Windows of the World (2000-2011). Christ In Youth has been a leader in youth ministry since its founding in 1968. CIY serves more than 70,000 students each year with more than 100 events nationwide, designed to amplify Christ’s call on student lives to become Kingdom workers. CIY’s Engage, now under the leadership of Rachel (Oblon) Grindle, seeks to help Kingdom workers engage people by connecting with missional leaders, global Kingdom works and cultural intelligence. Beginning with the 2015 SICOM in Richmond, VA, Engage and SICOM will work together to train students to become Kingdom Workers who engage as we seek to make Jesus famous.
As part of the International Conference On Missions that takes place this October 29 – November 1, 2015 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, the partnership between ICOM and the Virginia Evangelizing Fellowship combined with this new venture with Engage and SICOM have the potential to make the 2015 ICOM/SICOM a pivotal year in missions, in church planting and in local churches.
