Like most people, as a senior in highschool I found myself questioning what God’s plans were for me as I had some pretty big decisions to make, such as what to do with the rest of my life. :)  I struggled with the fear of making the wrong decision or taking the wrong path, but knew I had to decide something as graduation was quickly approaching.  I chose to attend IUPUI to major in communications (why, I have no idea!).  I very quickly realized that was not the program for me! While on campus I learned about a program called Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management.  That sounded interesting enough, so I added the intro course to my schedule.  I fell in love with the idea of a profession in that field, and decided that is where I would devote my time and energy.

The following year one of my dreams came true, becoming a cheerleader at Indiana University. I transferred to IU and also changed my major to Recreational Sport Management.  Once again, God had different plans for my life and called me back to my hometown.  The following year I re-enrolled at IUPUI and changed my major yet again, back to Event Management.  So,  I completed an Event Management Certification and had one last requirement to fulfil…an internship.  I had been a competitive cheerleader my entire life and wanted to use my schooling to work in the cheerleading industry, and secured an internship with a competitive cheerleading company in North Carolina. But, God had a different plan!

Just weeks before I was supposed to leave for my internship with the cheerleading company, I got cold feet.  I was uneasy that I was making the right decision, so I reevaluated and began praying again to see what God had to say.  A couple weeks later David Empson called and mentioned they were looking for part time help in the office leading up to conference.  He offered me an internship opportunity and there was no question, that is where God wanted me to go.

I began by being an office assistant, doing anything and everything I could to help during the busy conference season. It has now been three years since I started, and coming up on my fourth ICOM! My role has immensely changed! I am now the Executive Assistant in the office and have the privilege of being the pre-con liaison, handling SICOM registration, designing and organizing the MSA missionary mailings, and doing all kinds of design work for the conference! God has blessed me with an incredible job, amazing coworkers, and unique opportunities at just the right times in my life.  I can’t imagine what my life would’ve been like without ICOM the past 3 years and I’m so excited to know that God is not done writing the rest of my story yet!
